Verifying Air Purity with HEPA Filtration

Following a mould remediation project, the job is not finished once the visible contamination is gone. Microscopic mould spores, often disturbed during the removal process, can remain suspended in the air, posing a risk of re-contamination and affecting respiratory health. Our air treatment service uses commercial-grade HEPA filtration units to capture these residual airborne particulates, a critical final step in ensuring a safe indoor environment.

Canberra Home

This isn’t a cosmetic “air freshening” service. It is a technical process designed to physically remove harmful spores from the air, validating the success of a remediation project and providing documented peace of mind.

Post-Remediation Air Scrubbing for
Canberra Properties

We find that many mould issues in Canberra homes, particularly in suburbs like Belconnen and Tuggeranong, are not from major floods but from persistent condensation during the cold, damp winters. When central heating warms a home with older, single-pane windows or poor sub-floor ventilation, moisture forms on walls and inside window frames, creating ideal conditions for Aspergillus and Penicillium growth.

Our role is to manage the airborne aftermath. After the source moisture is fixed and contaminated materials are removed, we deploy IAQ Pro AS500 HEPA air scrubbers to purify the air. A recent project in a double-brick Griffith home required running three of our units for 48 hours to bring the airborne spore count down to levels comparable with the outdoor environment, a benchmark for successful remediation.

Why Air Scrubbing is Non-Negotiable in
Canberra's Climate

Canberra’s distinct seasons create unique challenges. The rapid temperature drops in autumn can trap moisture inside well-sealed modern homes, while older properties struggle with dampness in wall cavities and sub-floor spaces.

Without aggressive HEPA air scrubbing after a mould clean-up, dormant spores can easily circulate through HVAC systems and settle on new surfaces, restarting the growth cycle as soon as humidity levels rise. This service is a critical investment in breaking that cycle for good.

Air Treatment FAQs

What is a HEPA air scrubber?

A HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) scrubber is a professional air filtration device. Unlike consumer air purifiers, our commercial units are sealed to prevent bypass and use certified filters that capture 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns, including mould spores, bacteria, and plaster dust.

Does this service remove mould from my walls?

No. Air scrubbing is exclusively for airborne contaminants. It is the final step after all visible surface mould has been physically removed and the underlying moisture problem has been repaired according to the S520 standard.

Is air scrubbing the same as 'fogging'?

Absolutely not. Fogging is the application of a chemical biocide into the air, which we do not endorse as a standalone solution. The IICRC standard prioritizes physical removal of contaminants. Our process physically captures and removes spores from the air; it does not just spray chemicals.

When is air scrubbing required?

We recommend it after any professional mould remediation where contamination was significant, where occupants have known sensitivities, or when post-remediation air testing is needed to verify clearance.
